SPZ Gallery
December 2025 – January 2026
wood, reinforcing mesh, plaster-and-clay mortar
When I walk past the SPZ Gallery and glance inside, my gaze usually lingers on the opposite wall, which I view as a kind of frontage. This frontal image was so persistent during the preparations that I found it difficult to focus on any other direction. Since I had previously attempted to depict walls through analogies with the human body in my past exhibitions, it made sense to approach the frontality as the “face” of the wall—a facade. However, observing a face that is turned towards or away from us tends to encourage a black-and-white composition. That is why I rotated the wall so that both sides were visible from the street, while at the same time suspending half of the wall in mid-air. This precarious structure, combined with the cracking plaster-and-clay mortar, accentuated the variable nature that is inherent to both a face and a facade.
